Writing Projects

I fell in love with academic writing while I worked on my BFA in Musical Theater at Fredonia, and jumped on the opportunity to develop my knowledge and writing in 2020 when I enrolled at the University at Buffalo, where I was awarded a Master of Arts in Theater and Performance in 2022. I now remain engaged in academic discourse through my participation in the Association for Theater in Higher Education, where I currently serve as the Senior Graduate Student Representative for the Music Theatre/Dance Focus Group.
I added comedy and songwriting to my toolbox during my time in New York City, where I studied improvisation and sketch comedy with the Upright Citizen's Brigade, playwriting with The Barrow Group, and regularly performed (and eventually taught) with the Brooklyn Comedy Collective. My duo cabaret act TWO TUCKERS was popular for our original comedy songs, lauded by nightlife legend Michael Musto as "utterly fresh and engaging" in 2018.

01 ‘Moments in the Woods’: Gay cruising, Into the Woods and AIDS (2021)

My first academic publication came from my participation in the Bruce Kirle Memorial Debut Panel with the Music Theatre Dance focus group at the 2021 ATHE Conference. Inspired by conversations during my undergraduate study and my performance of "Moments in the Woods" in drag, it is an argument about the value of queer readings of the musical theater canon. It is available for purchase via Studies in Musical Theatre.

02 Defying Faggotry: Exploring Intersections of Queerness, Drag, and Musical Theatre (2022)

My thesis in fulfillment of an MA in Theater and Performance is a survey of the relationship between drag performance and commercial theatre, focused on artists who use drag as a tool for their artistic expression across the modes of nightlife and theatrical performance. It is available via ProQuest Dissertation Publishing.

03 "The Only [Straight] Boy in the Room" (2018)

This parody contemporary musical theatre song, inspired by my cowriters' time at French Woods Theatre Camp and Stagedoor Manor was made available for purchase at NewMusicalTheatre.com after cowriter Natalie Walker's performance of the piece went viral on twitter.
04 The Great Porcelain Way (2015-2016)

After moving to New York City, I began my first major project, a comedic blog that I wrote, designed, and maintained during the 2015-16 Broadway season. My comprehensive reviews of Broadway’s bathroom facilities garnered attention from the New York Times' Michael Paulson and Playbill.com creator Robert Viagas. I closed the site after the 2016 Tony awards to focus on my performance work.
